Where Can You Find Ghosts, Aliens and Bigfoot? Paracon!

concretemtbaker

On Saturday, Oct. 22, I drove out to Concrete, WA for Forest Moon Paranormal’s first Paracon. Concrete is tucked in the mountains near the Washington-Canada border, at the base of Mt.Baker. Multiple UFO sightings, an active Bigfoot population, and the town of Concrete itself is extremely haunted. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect location for this event. And it is unbelievably beautiful. I mean really, just look at this!

Paracon = Paranormal Conference, in case you were wondering. It was my first, and I had no idea what to expect. I was hoping to hear some interesting speakers, maybe learn something, and this Paracon really delivered.

Every speaker that I heard did such a great job of presenting their topic, answering questions, and being available to talk with anyone. I got there late, so I missed the Bigfoot presentation, and only caught the very end of the UFO talk, but here’s what I did hear.

Ghostology 101 with S.J. and Russ Wells of F.O.G. Paranormal.

A thorough, basic primer on the how-to’s of paranormal investigation. Their discussion included definitions of common paranormal terms, safety considerations, and some really amazing pictures they’ve taken on investigations. What I really liked, and haven’t seen in many paranormal groups, was the respect and compassion F.O.G. maintains for their human clients AND the spirits they find during investigations.

S.J. and Russ have been investigating the paranormal for well over 30 years. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. If you’re in the Pacific Northwest, and are experiencing paranormal activity you would like investigated, contact S.J. and Russ at F.O.G. Paranormal

Tying the Paranormal Together with Christina George.

Christina George is a paranormal investigator and radio host with Paranormal Connections. Christina’s talk centered on the idea that all paranormal aspects are linked. Historically, this idea has not been popular in the para-community. The ghost investigators didn’t have much to do with the UFO peeps, and neither had anything to do with Bigfoot crowd.

Christina has over 20 years in the paranormal field, and has found that people who experience the paranormal often experience all of it – spirit contact, seeing UFO’s, developing psychic abilities. So if you’re going to investigate, it makes sense to expand and investigate all of it. Otherwise, links and commonalities that are vital to understanding these phenomena can easily be missed.

Experiencers: The Importance of the First Hand Account with Dave Scott of Spaced Out Radio.

Dave shared his personal experiences – with ghosts, aliens and Bigfoot. More than just telling his stories, Dave’s presentation illustrated something that everyone who’s had a brush with the paranormal thinks at one point or another – Am I the only one who’s experienced this?

No. You’re not. You’re not crazy, you’re not alone. And it is critical to get out, find like-minded folks and share what you’ve seen. Many experiencers never speak up because they’re afraid; of losing family or friends, of being ostracized, even of losing their job. Dave pointed out that even in paranormal investigations, the person’s individual experience is sometimes cast aside as unimportant – because it cannot be measured, or otherwise validated. This is inherently wrong. Our experience is crucial; what we see, what we feel, must also be recorded and shared.

He did point out that it’s important we do this in a safe environment. But those places are out there. The three groups I’ve mentioned are all a really good place to start.

I was so impressed with all the speakers. The common thread through all the presentations was one of respect. Respect for people telling their stories. Respect for the beings who trigger the phenomena. Respect for other investigators. There was a definite sense of cooperation and camaraderie between all the participants and speakers. I have been experiencing the paranormal my whole life, but I am a total newbie when it comes to trying to network with others who have. The people at this Paracon were all welcoming, friendly and it was a huge relief to be able to talk and share openly.

I have to give big kudos to Eric Cooper, his wife Issy, and everyone who worked so hard to put together and pull off this event. Eric is the founder of Forest Moon Paranormal, a paranormal crisis team. Forest Moon is one of the few groups I’ve found (the other being F.O.G) that considers the spirit’s well-being when they are helping clients affected by paranormal activity.

What so many people forget is that ghosts are people, usually people who have suffered a terrible, traumatic event in addition to dying. These spirits are often in pain, frightened and confused, which can cause them to lash out in anger. As I nurse, I can attest to the fact that living humans do this – I’ve seen it first hand. Humans in fear and pain, whether they’re alive or dead, deserve to be treated with compassion and respect to help ease that fear and pain. The good people at Forest Moon and F.O.G. never lose sight of that when they respond to a client’s request for help.

This event will be back next year. I know I’m planning on being there.

Weird Weekend – A Rare Sneak Peek And Update

I was tagged by WANA buddy and God of Thunder Tour Promoter for Thor, Debra Kristi, in the 7-7-7 Game.  Thanks, Debra!  She rocks as writer: Debra will make you laugh, make you cry, make you think.  Make sure you check out her terrific blog, Sparks in the Fire, and follow the adventures of Thor as he tours the Earth.  He’ll be making another pass through the Evergreen State shortly.  I’m preparing my household now for the Asgardian’s visit.

In the 7-7-7 Game you go to either page 7 or 77 of your manuscript, count down 7 lines and then paste the next 7.  My current WIP is so new it doesn’t even have a working title yet, but, here’s a little peek:

“Lo siento, senorita, but I work nights and need to sleep all day.  I can’t.”  He shrugged, and looked away.  “Unless you can pay more than my job now.”  He hinted.  Lily couldn’t, and embarrassed she held her persuasions.  He shook his head, again.

“Lo siento.”  He repeated.  Lily was grateful he stuck around to help the rest of the day.

The herd was in frightful shape, physically, emotionally and metaphysically.

When they finished up that first day, Lily had no time to work on the heavy energies weighing the horses down.  She activated every ward she had on the barn and even called in a couple of astral allies to guard the injured horses when she crawled under the covers that first night.

Caring for the desperately wounded horses, shielding them psychically and magically took it’s toll on Lily.  Their medical care was intense, and Lily could not even begin to disable the dark energies clinging to the herd.  She could only continue to keep them shielded and the strain was draining her rapidly.  She slept in the barn in short bursts, when she could sleep.

Lily had no idea how she was going to fix this.

That’s a few more than 7 lines, I know.  Always give more, that’s my motto.

Speaking of more…I was listening to past shows of Coast To Coast AM recently, and the geneticist who says she has isolated Bigfoot DNA was the guest.  I wrote about Bigfoot recently, and mentioned the press release from this woman’s company.  I said in that post that I was reserving judgement until I saw the data published in a peer-reviewed journal.  I figured that was the last I’d hear of it.  I was wrong.

The show aired on December 23, 2012, and it was a real eye-opener to listen to this woman speak.  Dr. Melba S. Ketchum is no lightweight.  She is a veterinarian, a genetics researcher and she founded a company called DNA Diagnostics in 1985 that offers services in human and animal forensics, paternity testing and disease diagnostics to name just a few.  In the interview, she stated categorically that she was not a believer in Bigfoot before she began this project.  She also said that this discovery has caused such traumatic upheaval in her life that, when host George Knapp asked her “if she had the choice, would she do it again” her “No!” was immediate.

In her opinion, her proof is conclusive, she has isolated the genome of a previously unknown human hybrid.  That the mitochondrial DNA is unquestionably of modern humans, and that there are DNA segments that are unknown to any current database.  She states these are a tribe of humans, that they should be immediately protected, and all ‘Bigfoot hunts’ should be stopped.  Needless to say, she has irritated a large body of Bigfoot researchers whose bread and butter relies on hunting Sasquatch.  Not everyone, it seems, is thrilled with her research or her statements.

She could not describe her research protocols, or give a lot of details because her paper is currently under review for publication.  She was fully confident in the paper being accepted, but did qualify that if it was not, she would publish the data publicly.  I was persuaded by her testimony.

Don’t let me sway you though.  Listen for yourself.  Skip to minute 41 for the Dr. Ketchum’s interview.  The first hour is interesting, but unrelated to this topic.

It’s over 2 hours long, but it if you interested in Bigfoot, you’ll enjoy this.   Put it on in the background while you’re cooking dinner or doing dishes, that’s how I listen.  Then come back and let me know what you think.

Weird Weekend – Bigfoot, Hoax Or Real Deal?

Ah, Bigfoot.  One of the trifecta of cryptids that also includes the Loch Ness Monster and the Yeti.  Remember the Patterson film that surfaced in 1967?  A large lumbering ape-like creature filmed by two men out on horseback in Northern California had been praised and vilified.  Is it a hoax?  Is it real?  Both men involved consistently claimed it was not a hoax, but many have come forward since saying they wore a suit and faked the Patterson film.

Others, such as the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization maintain that this is a legitimate film showing an actual Bigfoot.

Real or fake?  A flesh and blood organism, a large mammalian species that has thus far gone undiscovered in North America?  Sightings continue to this day, as you can see in the two following videos.

Some of them even make it to the evening news.

Naturally, some are manufactured, deliberate hoaxes, as was the case in Montana when a man put on a Ghillie suit (a type of camouflage), to try and get people to call in and report Sasquatch sightings.  Sadly, that hoaxer met a tragic end when he was struck twice and killed by cars while crossing a highway.

The biggest factor brought up by the naysayers is the lack of hard evidence.  The blurry photos and videos, the absence of physical trace seem to point to an absence of an actual animal.

Or do they?  Is there any physical evidence that has not hit the mainstream media?  Researchers in Texas say they have sequenced Bigfoot DNA from “purported Bigfoot samples.”  They claim that the DNA proves Bigfoot is a heretofore unknown species that is a “a human hybrid with unambiguously modern human maternal ancestry.”  Wow.  Take that one in for a moment, and ponder if we can prove that one cryptid is real, what does that say about the rest?  I encourage you to read the report I found, here.  It’s not a scholarly article, still waiting to see that, but nonetheless, it is food for thought.

Have you seen a Bigfoot?  Heard one hollering in the woods while you were camping?  I haven’t, but a good friend tells how she and another friend listened to one howling on a mountainside while they were camping a few years ago.  These were experienced campers, and outdoor enthusiasts and both said it was like nothing they’d ever heard before.

How about you?

Weird Weekend – Werewolves? For Real?

You’re out hiking in the woods on a late summer evening.  The full moon is rising above the distant hills.  You can’t see it, but its brilliant silver light spills between the boles of the trees and the world around you is moving light and shadow.  The only sound is the rustle of your feet through the small green plants lining the forest floor and the wind sighing through the branches above you.

Off to your left, a bush shakes violently, and with a spray of leaves a massive creature leaps out onto the path in front of you.  It hunches on all fours, before slowly unfolding to a two-legged stance that towers over you.  The last thing you see as it lunges at you are its wolf-like jaws parting.

I confess.  I love the idea of being a shapeshifter.  Seriously, how fun would it be to be able to change into another creature?  Better than being dead, and still walking around.  If I had a choice between becoming a werewolf and becoming a vampire, well, I’d be werewolf all the way.  Frankly I don’t care how lively a vampire is, they’re still just a pretty zombie.  Enamored as I am of the werewolf mythos, I have always relegated it to the world of make-believe, or at least that it exists purely on the spiritual realm.  But what if it wasn’t?

I found this website, The Beast of Bray Road.  Linda Godfrey details on her blog and her websites about large creatures with manlike bodies and wolflike heads in rural Wisconsin and Michigan.  Multiple sightings, encounters, even a movie was made about these beasts, and Animal Planet talks about them.

Another version of Bigfoot, right?  Possibly. But then again, what is Bigfoot?  Lots and lots of theories have been put forth, including that these are dimensional creatures, able to shift back and forth between our reality and others.  I find these reports interesting, but I have no definitive views either way.  I heard Linda on Coast to Coast one night, and the sheer number of sightings was impressive, reported by people from all walks of life.  I do think our world is wider and wilder than most people think, and the idea that these wolf-men might actually exist is absolutely intriguing.

Not long ago, I heard David Paulides on Coast to Coast AM.  He was discussing his book, Missing 411, which describes mysterious disappearances from national parks.  Mr. Paulides has a long history in law enforcement and investigation, and I listened to him detail case after case of people who have gone missing under extremely unusual circumstances.  It was a memorable show, but what really stood out was when he described a little girl who went missing.  When she was found told of being carried away by a ‘big wolf’ who ‘picked her up in his arms.’  He ‘gave her berries to eat’ and ‘ate her hat.’  Many of those recovered described similar encounters with large beasts.  Again, intriguing, compelling but not definitive.  I think I’ll have to pick up Mr. Paulides book and get the full story.

What would you do if you ran into a werewolf?  Would you want to be bitten?  Do you think it possible that some form of this creature could exist in our world?

I would love to hear your thoughts!
